Brand Story

In 1985, a simple and honest young man from Yunlin County chose to establish his own business to shoulder the burden of providing a livelihood for his family which was in dire straits. With firm determination he realized his dream of technology commercialization in the field of shrimp feed production and established Tai-Aqua Co., Ltd., a company dealing in feed premixes and pharmaceutical products for aquatic animals. Two years later, he established Pengqun Enterprise Co., Ltd. – a model training and aquatic animal feed plant in the Guantian Industrial Park in Tainan to manufacture shrimp feed and perform technology export services.

After experiencing the shock of the virus infections of the tiger shrimp breeding areas in 1988, his resolve to realize his hopes and dreams grew stronger and stronger despite a trying time of frustration. In order to initiate a transformation of the enterprise and extend the core values and competitiveness, New Bellus Enterprises Co., Ltd., was established in 1992. The company's main business area was the import, purchase, and sale of the main ingredients for vegetarian food items such as egg white powder, whey protein, wheat protein, soy protein, and other types of protein powder. In view of the rise of preventive medicine in 1995 and the growing focus on health care by modern humans the company fully implemented the import, purchase, and sale of the third generation of functional food ingredients. In 2000, Amon Biotech Co., Ltd. was founded to ensure a separation of the production and marketing mechanisms. The company's operations focus on the purchase and sale of nutritious health food products as well as beauty and skin care products.

In response to the social transformations and changing economic structure in Taiwan after 1992, New Bellus began to carefully assess the company's involvement in the research and development of microbial fermentation technology and established a pioneer research facility to launch the core R&D activity of conducting the submerged cultivation of Antrodia cinnamomea, a unique mushroom which is also known as the ruby in Taiwan's forests. To ensure a strict adherence to food safety and hygiene quality standards, quality standard certifications such as GMP, HACPP, and ISO 9001:2000 were implemented for all plants in 2006, while the microbial fermentation plant launched mass production. European high-standard components were employed for the design and development of fermentation facilities and fluid transmission lines (including a CIP automatic cleaning system) in combination with a brand-new automatic computer control system.

Due to the fact that the recognized positive effects of functional lactic acid bacteria on human health indicate a high global development potential, we invested in post processing facilities, launched mass production, and established a bacterial strains library in 2008. At the same time, in view of the need for scientific verification of health food products, we initiated an intensive cooperation program for "joint research efforts by Industry-Academy". In 2011, we integrated the resources of three large R&D facilities to gradually establish an autonomous research capacity. Joint improvements are based on a two-way circular process with the goal of a constant enhancement of microbial fermentation technologies and the active components of fermentation products. On the other hand, the quality control laboratory has been developed into a TAF-certified (ISO 17025) laboratory. We also continue to establish bioactivity laboratories and screening platforms for all indicator functions in the hope of advancing toward the research goal of developing "new botanical drugs" and "new biotechnology drugs".

In 2013, we took the initiative in establishing a tourism factory, the "MicroFer House", to spread knowledge about microbial fermentation and demonstrate its educational potential. We also aim to share our accumulated achievements in the transformation and upgrade process of New Bellus with the general public through the design and planning of the exhibition premises. We expect the MicroFer House to spread and pass on knowledge by adopting a theme, education, and brand-based approach to create brand and corporate cultural values. New Bellus will also continue to embrace a human-centered concept to implement sustainable corporate operations and is always committed to making social contributions.

In 2014, we commence to integrate internal resources to a platform in order to construct an electronic management system for the corporate. We focus on maximizing research output, revamping the company website and connecting to international E-business platforms to increase corporate competitiveness. Moreover, we further seek certifications of environmental education for our sightseeing factory. Implementation of our four goals, distinguished, service-, technology-, and international based strategies is essential for expansion of our international business sector.
